Green Tomato Chutney

Had a request for the recipe for green tomato chutney that we used last summer.  Very good!

5 cups firm green tomatoes
1 seeded diced lemon
1 clove garlic, minced
2-1/4 cups dark brown sugar
1-1/2 cups seedless raisins
3 ounces crystallized ginger, cut fine
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoons  cayenne pepper
2 cups vinegar
2 seeded minced green peppers
Simmer all ingredients until the tomatoes are tender but not too soupy.  Put in sterile jars and seal. (Water bath).

  1. John and Carol thank you! Looks really yummy, so it will definitely be at the top of my "what to do with my green tomatoes" list. :)

  2. Stephanie--She has also made cranberry chutney that is real good, and rhubarb chutney that is good, but not as good as the other two. Recipe needs to be tweaked a little.

Leigh--I think you will like it. Very good on sandwiches. Even on a peanut butter sandwich!
