Thursday ramblings

I caught these pics as a storm was moving through.  We didn't get any rain, but some areas close by did.  Also hail and a little wind.  Just enough to blow some things, like road sharks (thistles) back south that went north in the bad winds over the weekend. Don't need the hail.    We had covered the tomatoes, and raspberries.  Most everything else is on their own.  Still time to replant if I would have to.  The quail house is finished.  Chicks should be here next week.  We are looking forward to them once again.

Not much else going on in this small part of the world.  A mountain lion was seen about a 1/2 mile from our house last week.  Getting a little close.  We saw one a couple of years ago east 2 miles. I have seen others over the years,or seen sign of them.  Plenty of natural prey for them around here.  They shouldn't be hungry.  I know that authorities say that there are none around, but if you have deer, you have lions.  Basic simple laws of nature.

I haven't watched any news yet today, so my blood pressure is doing fine.  Still boiling over some things of the past few days.  I won't dwell on it, because I will just get to ranting and raving and not make any sense.  Others who are better at words have said it anyway.

We watched the Hatfield and McCoy movie on History channel.  Interesting watch.  I am sure it was Hollywoodized in parts to make more exciting, but the basic theme was there.  There was a similar feud close by here early 1900's.  It was a battle between a family of farmers and an affluent family of ranchers.  Didn't last as long as Hatfield and McCoy feud, but lives were lost.  The main fight ensued over a windmill and stock tank.

You know--things like this could erupt in the future---just thinking.  Except now it is called civil unrest instead of a feud.

Happy Monday Memorial day.  I'm sure this has been said many times this weekend, but  thanks to everyone who has served for the freedom of this country and to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

I have been a little slack in writing and commenting on other blogs for the past week.  Been a lot going on. My son spent a couple of days here.   It was a good visit.  He is an Emergency Dispatcher in central Kansas, so he likes to get out here and get away from it all.  We drove around and took some pictures Saturday.  This one I took is a canyon a couple of miles from where our house is.

With the exception of the windmill in the center of the picture, this is just how the country would have looked when early settlers first traveled through here.

The weather was not the best for the weekend.  The wind hit hard early Saturday morning and didn't quit until Mid day Sunday.  I don't know how high the wind got, but there was a lot of damage in the area.  I am guessing in the 70-80 MPH range.   I say that because my weather rock was severely damaged.  I finally found it 3 miles north.  There were some reports of a meteor landing nearby, but after further investigation it was just my weather rock re-entering earth's atmosphere. We didn't get any rain, just dirt.  If anyone in Oklahoma is missing any red dirt, it came through here.  It was bad enough to be a named storm by the locals.  I can't repeat the name that was given it, but it didn't start with the beginning of the alphabet.  It think it was more in the middle, like M, and rhymes with trucker.  In the small town near here, a wall of the poolhall started to fall.  I saw it yesterday and didn't have my camera.  They had stacked hay bales up against the wall to keep it from falling.  I will try to get some pics of it.  As long as they get it fixed before winter everything should be fine.  Most of the time the "patrons" just sit in chairs out front.  I need a pic of that also.

The garden survived ok.  Nothing is tall enough to be bothered.  I planted more corn, beans, beets, pumpkins.  I planted bush beans and corn between the rows of potatoes.  I put pole beans and in the rows of corn that is about knee-high.  We will see how it all works out.  The grower tribes of Indians had good luck with the Three Sisters method of planting, so it all should work.

Time to go.  I need to do some mowing today.

Once again--God Bless this great nation as we remember and honor those who have fought to keep us a great nation.--johnnyb

Sunday Morning Pics

Just a few pictures from the Middle of Somewhere.  The clouds I caught as they were coming out of the Middle of Nowhere.  I thought we were going to get an"all over toad drencher" for a while, but only got a nice little shower.

This is Carol's latest project.  The table used to have a shatter type glass top to it.  The wind blew the table over during a horrific (that's just a shade over horrendous on the burrito wind scale), and low and behold, the glass was definitely shatterproof.  I made a solid wooden tabletop and she did the mosaic. Now it should have a humongous wind rating.

The beans, corn, and tomatoes are doing good so far.  Didn't plant a lot of tomatoes this year.  Seems like we do just as well with a few as with a lot.

The flowers in front of the house in bloom.  Daisies have not bloomed yet.  Most are Sweet William.  One plant has all of the colors of all of the plants in the bed.  They reseed every year, and have been doing well.  The Snap Dragons in the left side of the picture have some neat colors.
Looks to be a nice day.  We have a lot of mowing to do later when it dries a little.  I hope everyone has a good day and week ahead.  Don't let the small stuff on Monday turn into bigger things by Friday.

The AMA on Obamacare

The American Medical Association has weighed in on Obama's new health care package. The Allergists were in favor of scratching it, but the Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves. The Gastroenterologists had sort of a gut feeling about it, but the Neurologists thought the Administration had a lot of nerve. Meanwhile, Obstetricians felt certain everyone was laboring under a misconception, while the Ophthalmologists considered the idea shortsighted. Pathologists yelled, "Over my dead body!" while the Pediatricians said, "Oh, grow up!" The Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness, while the Radiologists could see right through it. Surgeons decided to wash their hands of the whole thing and the Internists claimed it would indeed be a bitter pill to swallow. The Plastic Surgeons opined that this proposal would "put a whole new face on the matter". The Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but the Urologists were pissed off at the whole idea. Anesthesiologists thought the whole idea was a gas, and those lofty Cardiologists didn't have the heart to say no. In the end, the Proctologists won out, leaving the entire decision up to the assholes in Washington .

Secret Service conduct

The Secret Service issued new rules of conduct for agents Friday.

Agents can no longer get drunk, procure hookers, or go to strip bars.

The rules say that from now on, if agents feel compelled to engage
in such behavior, they can run for public office like anyone else.

Hump Day

Hump day already.  My how time just keeps flying by.  why it just seems like day before yesterday was Monday!  Anyway it has been a busy week.  Garden and chicken/quail house have kept us going.  I decided to use OSB for the walls and ceiling in the bird house.  I was going to use some bead-board from the house I am tearing down, but I am about repurposed out, or up-cycling as it is being called now.  I still call it just plain old foraging.  The building has gone along ok.  Sometimes the development department got a little ahead of the research department.  But it all worked out ok.  Hey it's just a flippin' chicken house!  I should get the walls up today and then it will be just a little painting and the other finishing touches.

We are putting shredded paper in the pallets for insulation.  I get the paper from the school district.  They don't have to haul it away, and it keeps it out of the landfill.  Should work ok.  At least it is something.

Nothing much of interest been going on in this small part of the world.  Haven't seen any unmarked choppers with blackened windows flying over recently, so they must have interests elsewhere.

Our friend from out state is here  turkey hunting with another person.  I think they leave today.  He will be back next week with others.  There are a lot of turkeys around here.  Hmmm-that doesn't sound right.  Bird type turkeys.  Some of the other type also, but not many.  Not  as many as Washington DC.  Ok don't send the unmarked choppers and the black cars.  Always bothers me when I see people in black suits standing outside my door talking  into their lapels or their Dick Tracy wrist watches.

Oh well, such is life in the fast lane.  Actually there is no real fast lane here.  All roads are just 2 lanes, one of them with a slow moving vehicle.  One lane headed east and one headed west.  Then once in a while they will go north or south, especially when you come to a county or state correction line.  Another stupid question....why can't you drive from one state to another in a straight line.  Seems to me the surveyors of old should have gotten together at some point and figured this out.  And I thought my development department gets ahead of the research department!  I don't know if all states are that way, but I do know a lot of them are.

Talk about rambling!  Wait a minute--did I say anything about rambling?  Must be the medicine again.

God Bless All.  I hope everything goes well for all who reads these words and takes them away from some real intelligent reading. ---johnnyb
