Why We Love Children
NUDITY
I was driving with my three young children one warm summer evening when a woman in the convertible ahead of us stood up and waved. She was stark naked! As I was reeling from the shock, I heard my 5-year-old shout from the back seat, 'Mom, that lady isn't wearing a seat belt!'
OPINIONS
On the first day of school, a first-grader handed his teacher a note from his mother. The note read, 'The opinions expressed by this child are not necessarily those of his parents ...'
KETCHUP
KETCHUP
A woman was trying hard to get the ketchup out of the jar. During her struggle the phone rang so she asked her 4-year-old daughter to answer the phone.. 'Mommy can't come to the phone to talk to you right now, She's hitting the bottle.
MORE NUDITY

A little boy got lost at the YMCA and found himself in the women's locker room. When he was spotted, the room burst into shrieks, with ladies grabbing towels and running for cover. The little boy watched in amazement and then asked, 'What's the matter, haven't you ever seen a little boy before?'
POLICE # 1
POLICE # 1
While taking a routine vandalism report at an elementary school, I was interrupted by a little girl about 6 years old. Looking up and down at my uniform, she asked, 'Are you a cop? Yes,' I answered and continued writing the report. My mother said if I ever needed help I should ask the police. Is that right?' 'Yes, that's right,' I told her. 'Well, then,' she said as she extended her foot toward me, 'would you please tie my shoe?'
POLICE #2
It was the end of the day when I parked my police van in front of the station. As I gathered my equipment,my K-9 partner, Jake, was barking, and I saw a little boy staring in at me. 'Is that a dog you got back there?'he
asked.
'It sure is,' I replied.
Puzzled, the boy looked at me and then towards the back of the van. Finally he said, 'What'd he do?

ELDERLY
While working for an organization that delivers lunches to elderly shut-ins, I used to take my 4-year-old daughter on my afternoon rounds. She was unfailingly intrigued by the various appliances of old age, particularly the canes, walkers and wheelchairs. One day I found her staring at a pair of false teeth soaking in a glass. As I braced myself for the inevitable barrage of questions, she merely turned and whispered, 'The tooth fairy will never believe this!'
DRESS-UP
DRESS-UP
A little girl was watching her parents dress for a party. When she saw her dad donning his tuxedo, she warned, 'Daddy, you shouldn't wear that suit.'
'And why not, darling?'
'You know that it always gives you a headache the next morning.'
DEATH
'And why not, darling?'
'You know that it always gives you a headache the next morning.'
DEATH
While walking along the sidewalk in front of his church, our minister heard the intoning of a prayer that nearly made his collar wilt. Apparently, his 5-year-old son and his playmates had found a dead robin. Feeling that proper burial should be performed, they had secured a small box and cotton batting, then dug a hole and made ready for the disposal of the deceased.
The minister's son was chosen to say the appropriate prayers and with sonorous dignity intoned his version of what he thought his father always said: 'Glory be unto the Faaather, and unto the Sonnn, and into the hole he goooes.'(I want this line used at my funeral!)

SCHOOL
A little girl had just finished her first week of school. 'I'm just wasting my time,' she said to her mother. 'I can't read, I can't write, and they won't let me talk!
BIBLE
A little boy opened the big family Bible. He was fascinated as he fingered through the old pages. Suddenly, something fell out of the Bible. He picked up the object and looked at it. What he saw was an old leaf that had been pressed in between the pages.
'Mama, look what I found,' the boy called out.
'What have you got there, dear?'
With astonishment in the young boy's voice, he answered, 'I think it's Adam's underwear!'

Strawberry Fields For Ever
Carol got the strawberry beds redone this week. She dug up a lot of the plants. We gave a bunch away, kept a bunch and the part that that was over run with grass I just tilled up. Hopefully we can keep up with them this season. Should be easier with the individual beds and the tank.
I went on what I call a research and development and foraging mission the other day. Carol calls it repurposing. Actually I was scrounging around the junk pile. Came back with the old stock tank, and three 16' cattle panels that the neighbors didn't want. All stuff that will be used.
Early garden doing ok. Lettuce is up in the cold frame. Onions and beets are peeking through. We ate our first bunch of asparagus this week. Tasted gooooood! A lot of the fruit trees are in bloom right now. Especially the wild plum along the fence rows. I think it is a little early. The wild plums have tendency to suffer from frost-bite. Our dwarf fruit trees in the yard are just starting to leaf out. They should be okay. Our Quaking Aspens are leafing out good. This will be the first full season for them. They should be colorful come fall. Looks like most of our current bushes made the winter. Raspberries are starting to green up. We planted more of them this spring. Blueberries are still in question.
Time to go. Things to see and people to do. Wait a minute that doesn't seem right. Oh well, onward and upward with the day. God Bless-----johnnyb

Monday Morning
I will try pictures again. If they don't show up, let me know. I took these the other evening just before sunset. One of those things where you just had to be there at the right moment.
Just sitting here into my second cup of coffee thinking of all that I would like to do today. The thinking list is way to much for my mind this morning, so I will just put it on paper and do one thing at a time. Beautiful spring morning. I love this time of year. We had a little rain last week, which was greatly needed. It looks like it could be a warm spring. Maybe I will cheat on a few things in the garden. I always do anyway. Never know unless you try. Some of the fruit trees are in full blossom. Seems a little early for that. They could get bit. One thing I do need to get started on, actually 2 things, summer kitchen and a quail house. Quail will be here first week in June. That will come up faster than I want. I would be interesting to know how many survived last year. We had a fairly open winter and not real cold. Some pheasant hunters told me that they saw more quail this year than they had for years. Maybe they are making a comeback. A neighbor a couple of miles north are going to raise some also. It is just nice to think we are making a difference. Not only that it is fun to do.
We have been dog-sitting for our daughter's two Yorkies. It is strange to have a couple of ankle-bitters around when we are used to Labs. They enjoy the country life. Our daughter has put her house on the market and is being shown a lot. They will not show the house if dogs are there. She cannot take off work and get the dogs all the time, hence we have them for a few days. They are not too much trouble. Kind of obnoxious at times, but they are supposed to be. That is the purpose of yip-yips. Just kidding. My problem is I am always afraid of stepping on one of them.
Just read from Duke that Stephen is hospitalized. Our thoughts and prayers go out yo him and his family for a quick recovery.
Into cup #3. Guess I know what I will be doing quite often for the rest of the morning! Speaking of which, it is already started. Guess I will end this here a get a start on the day.

Sorry
I have deleted the last post. Seems the picture was not always there. It would show on my computer sometimes, but not on others. So I just zapped it to wherever zapped things. I hope it ends up on some snoopy persons computer and screws it all up.
Looks like another nice day in the making. Will get more done in the garden. Carol's strawberry patch is running amuck, so we need to do something there. A bad problem with grass in the patch, so we will dig up plants and till it good.
Chickens are doing good. We have been getting 1/2 dozen every day. Not too bad from 10 hens. The four Silver Lace Wyandottes have been molting, so they may not be laying. Keeping us in eggs though. We are dog-sitting our daughter,s 2 Yorkies. They have never seen chickens before, so are being well entertained.
Time to get with it. Coffee done, and all three cups are working their way through my system already.

Thinking again (scary)
I haven't posted much lately, as I said in my last post.. Still a lot going. That is a good excuse. Actually I have had a lot on my mind. I have been read the Deep Winter series of books and it has spurned a lot of thought . I think I mentioned this in an earlier post. I am part way through the last book and it is almost scary as to how things are happening in the book. I can almost imagine some things happening in real time. I don't usually write on these topics, but I am becoming more alarmed all the time. I have been alarmed for some time. Even before we started changing our way of life a few years back. Even though we need a change in Disneyland North, I am afraid that the other side is not going to provide us with the right answers. Is there no common sense in politics? Why do we have to have President that is a fat cat? Why is it that how much money a candidate has seems to be the biggest issue. I realize that money will buy your way through anything, but is it the answer? I just feel like a person with good common sense and no money would make a better president than most of the ones we have had. We need someone with "cajones". Stand up to people, don't bow to anyone, defend the Constitution and make this a Country that the world would once again look up to. Right now I feel we are almost a laughing stock around the globe. We should not be apologizing for anyone's actions. Nobody apologized to us for 9-11. I will not continue on this train of thought. My thoughts don't get pretty as I continue.
This week-end I couldn't figure out why I felt in such a good mood. Sunday evening it sunk into my thick head that I hadn't listened to any news all week-end. Oh well, life goes on. Maybe I need to do a "Morning Report." Get a little lightness in my mind. Sorry about the rambling. Keep the powder dry.---johnnyb

Ramblings of the week
I have been little slack on posting lately. Been a lot going on. The weather has warmed considerably. Could even have record high temps for the next couple of days. Still no moisture. We started doing some garden work. We put in the potatoes this week. A little early, but we still had them in by St. Patrick's day. We saved seed potatoes last year and stored them in the cellar. They were starting to sprout, so we needed to get them in the ground. We also got carrots and lettuce planted and will get onions, and beets in this weekend. Swiss chard is starting to come back. I was hoping that it would. I put the lettuce in a cold frame, so it ought to survive any spring surprises. Some of the wildflowers are starting to peek through as well as the rhubarb. Garlic is up and doing well. I still have some parsnips to dig up. I think I will make some veggie chips out of some of them. Our tiller went belly-up about half way through, so we had to buy another. I'm getting too old to spade up a whole garden. Been there, done that. The chickens are doing ok. They started laying eggs this week. They've been laying 2-4 a day. They and the dogs are starting to tolerate each other a little more. They are still lunch in the eyes of the dogs. The black lab will sit and watch them and just drool. Slobber will hang all the way to the ground. (Turner and Hootch). the rooster has finally getting his voice box loosened up. It wasn't pretty for a while, but amusing.
We spent a day this week across the line helping our daughter with her house. She has put it on the market and there were a few things that need done. It has been shown a few times and the agent was expecting a busy weekend. She is doing better, but still has those days. Days where she is lower than a whale turd and days when she is so mad she wishes someone was a whale turd!
I hope everyone has a good weekend, and I hope everyone will spend some with the Lord and His Word. Every day should be a day of worship, but if today is the day you gather together--Happy Sabbath. If it is tomorrow, have a good day of fellowship and strengthening of our ties with Him. We need to pray continually for this great Country. I am sure you will all agree with me in the fact that there are some very troubling times ahead and we need to keep the faith in order to be able to face those times. That and a lot of dry powder!

Little girl on a plane
Just a cute story--
A stranger was seated next to a little girl on the airplane when the stranger turned to her and said, 'Let's talk. I've heard that flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger.'
The little girl, who had just opened her book, closed it slowly and said to the stranger, 'What would you like to talk about?'
'Oh, I don't know,' said the stranger. 'How about nuclear power?' and he smiles.
OK, ' she said. 'That could be an interesting topic. But let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same stuff - grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, and a horse produces clumps of dried grass. Why do you suppose that is?'
The stranger, visibly surprised by the little girl's intelligence, thinks about it and says, 'Hmmm, I
have no idea.'
To which the little girl replies, 'Do you really feel qualified to discuss nuclear power when you don't know shit?
Have a good one--johnnyb

Ramblings
We had a day of cool-down temps, but looks as if it might lean a little towards spring again. So much to do. The problem is that sometimes I want to do it all at the same time. If I make a list and just look at one thing and not the whole picture, I will get more accomplished. But...I have to make that list and stick to it. Didn't do much yesterday. Feeling a little puny. Had a bit of the back-yard trots, if you know what I mean. Hopefully better today.
In looking at the lawn, ot looks like the weeds are getting a good go. Time for a little weed & feed I guess. Then add a little water and it will soon be time to mow. Planning on seeding some more of the weak areas this spring. Hopefully I can get a little more done on garden prep. Need to get the carrots and radishes in. I may build a small cold fram for some lettuce and spinach. The chard is starting to come back. That is alway good. We had some last year, but the quail liked also, so I fed the a lot of it. I think we may have some in the freezer. Don't know if it is good or not. this time of year any thing that resembles fresh is good! We are just hoping for a good garden year so we do more canning. The weeds have been such a problem. Actually this whole place was a weed patch. We hope that by doing a raised bed system we will be able to control the weeds.
We have been reading the Deep Winter Series of books by Thomas Sherry. Good reading. Very thought provoking, and even a little prophetic. There were written a couple of years ago, but kind of spooky with the way things are headed. Inexpensive on the Kindle.
I painted a downstairs bathroom for a neighbor this week. She has a nice bar and room for entertaining. She is a big Kansas State fan and wanted to have a get-together for the KU and K-State game Friday nite. Big 12 basketball tournament. Woops. KU is playing, K-State is not. Baylor made sure of that. I didn't laugh. Just chuckled a little bit. I guess you can see I'm more of a KU fan in basketball. Oh well, life goes on.
-The Quote of the Decade:
“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America 's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America 's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, "the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”
~ Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006
I can't top that so I guess I will just sign off here. God Bless---johnnyb

Closer to spring
Beautiful weather today.. We worked outside in the yard. Should be able to get some more done today and then we are to have a couple of days of winter again. Carol cleaned up in the herb garden and trimmed back the raspberries. Chives are sprouting good as is the garlic. I started getting the beds ready for the early things. Will probably put in carrots soon. Beets and potatoes not far behind. I started digging up the parsnips. This picture was of some of the smaller ones. I hope they show up ok. My last pics didn't, I guess.
I have stored some in a barrel in the cellar in layers with straw. Should last a while. Good eating! Comfort food.
We got an old wood cookstove last weekend and a 1984 Dodge pickup. The p/u is in good condition. Few minor things, but is usable as soon as I get it tagged. The original engine has been replaced with an earlies engine of the same size. This is good. No electronics to mess with. The stove needs a little TLC, but looks like it will be ok.
I hope everyone is having a good week. If not, just buck up, hitch up the belt and give it hell. One thing for sure. If you are down and out, the only way is up. Put a ladder in that hole and climb out. We all need to be on our best to fight whatever may be coming!--God Bless--johnnyb
