Colors
It is starting to look as if God has his paint brush out and is adorning the countryside with fall colors. Such beauty this time of year. I have said this before, but am going to repeat it again. I love this time of year. To me the colors are like a reward for all that we go through in the summer with all the heat, dry weather, etc. The green of spring is nice, but not the same as all the colors of fall. Not looking forward to the winter cold, but not much I can do about that. There has been light frost in low lying areas in the last couple of weeks. Days are in the 70,s and 80,s. Yesterday was middle 90's, but supposed to cool today.
We will go into town and finish a paint job we have been helping a friend with. Be glad to get that done. Then it is back to work on the sleeping cabin, and also getting the garden ready for next spring. Still getting a few tomatoes. Everything else is pretty well done. Muskmelon set on to late so will probably not make it.
Hope this finds everyone well and good. MDR-hope you get to feeling better.

Fall
I think fall is here for good.
Been a week of up and down weather. Last week 90's on Monday, and low 40,s for a high on Friday. This Monday was 90 again. Today 60,s. But it is good beats 105. Been helping some friends paint their house the past couple of weeks. Would have been done except for the weather. The picture taken from our back yard over a field of corn. Sunsets have been neat.
Picked up our winter supply of wood pellets. Saved quite a bit buying them on contract for the year. Was a one time deal. Signed up last summer for pick up now.
Will be tearing up the garden soon, with the exception of the parsnips. those I will mulch heavy and dig next spring or as needed during the winter if the ground is,t too frozen.
Good crop of turkeys this year. We have about 20 that stroll by the house morning and evenings. I just heard them clucking outside a bit ago. They are fun to watch. Will be good hunting this next season.
Carol found some weekly sales on meat at one of the local stores. Will try to get there and pick up some for canning. Good for future use. Starting to replenish other food stock also. A lot we want to get. Pick up some here and there I guess.

Imagination and fantasy
"Limitations live only in our minds. But if we use our imaginations, our possibilities become limitless." Quote from Jaime Paolinetti, retired bicycle road racer. How true this statement is. I grew up on a farm. We didn't have TV until I was 11 years old, and of course no computers. I and neighbor kids would get together and come up with some of the wildest things, or at least in our minds they were. We were the nastiest of outlaw cowboys.
we were the toughest of gangsters. We fought all of the major battles from medievil times to the present. We made our own guns, knives and swords from wood found lying around. We made cannons out of tin cans and firecrackers, and grenades out of gourds and firecrackers. (Those usually got us in trouble!) Our imaginations would run amuck. Fantasys galore. There was noting that we could not conquer. Where is that imigination in the youth of today. How much imigination is involved in playing computer games all day. Fantasy maybe, but not imagination. It seems that to many kids today, if not sitting in front of a TV or computer, cannot entertain themselves. They simply do not know how. They are bored. 9-10-11 year old kids dealing drugs. That is their fantasy world. Very sad. Victims of the times.
I do not have solutions. Well I do, but it is hard to put them into play. An hour or two without playing a computer game to take a walk in the country side. Explore old farmhouses. Oh my, what is this world coming to! I am not condemming the use of computers or TV. They are a wonerful source of information readily available. But so is the world outside!

Saturday Morning
National Geographic TV had a show on the other night about what would happen if all humans on the planet just--poof-- were gone. Now my thought is--???. I suppose it may be interesting to know, but why would it be important if no one was here? Click--next channel. History channel: Visitors from outer space built some ruins in Central America and other places around the world. There are some unexplained things in the construction of some of these. I think that it is very interesting as to how blocks of solid rock weighing many tons were lifted into place and were machined to fit perfectly. This I watched. Not sold on the alien theory yet, but who knows. I keep an open mind and the remote handy. Now to my point in this aimless wandering--It has to be costly to produce these shows. And some are very interesting. Don't get me wrong on that point, but there is not many shows on how to prepare for TEOTWAWKI. Was one on preppers that was good. I suppose people "in the know" do not want to push something they don't think will ever happen. People need to get their head out of the sand or wherever else they may have it! People in the fire areas are fully aware of this, and my prayers go out to them.
Something else that is burning my butt right now is The Presidents plan for jobs. The ideas may be good, but the way I understand it, if Congress acts on it immediately, people would go to work the next day. I don't care when they act on it, red tape will delay it for months if not longer. Here again some people need to extricate their heads from wherever they have them.
Got to go--God Bless all--johnnyb

Gibson guitars
As a player of Gibson guitars since 1960, I am appalled at their being raided by the Feds. If the other guitar manufactures are using the same wood, what is the problem? The Attorney (and I use that term loosely) General said on TV that it was not political, but Gibson higher ups have donated to the Republican side and others to the other side. If this is so, I would call it political. Supposedly the same thing happened in the Chrysler dealership closings. Is this going along with the Bible--Revelation 13:17? Scary!---johnnyb

The Word
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).
To all my friends, I would like to pass this verse on as a reminder that He is always there for you. Even if you are not troubled take time every day to spend a few minutes in the Word of our Lord. Either way you will come out a winner. God Bless--johnnyb

End of summer?
A little moisture this week and the weather has cooled a little bit since the middle of the week. 70 degrees yesterday. Almost don't know how to act. Did some more veggie dehydrating this week. More squash seeds, tomatoes, cucumbers, and rosemary. I ground up the cucumbers. Make a nice addition to a salad or a dip. Also ground up some dried tomatoes and rosemary, and mixed them together. Pretty tasty. The veggies are a nice addition to our pantry stores. Work good for emergency food supplies. I have some parsnips to try and see how they taste dried. Have a lot of basil, parsley, sage rosemary and thyme (I ought to write a song) to dry also. Has been a good year for herbs. Basil has grown to 3-4 feet tall and all leaves. Kept the blossoms off until now. Will get some seed for next year. Rabbits and grasshoppers ate the fennel. Was hoping to some seeds and the bulbs. Rabbits have been terrible this. Couple of the died of lead poisoning. Mostly the dogs use them as means of entertainment. Keeps both on their toes.
We planted 5 Quaking Aspens this week. Along with currants, wild roses, snowberries. It was a good time to have planted since we got moisture.
God Bless all--Go ahead and take the wooden nickels. They are probably worth more than regular nickels! Later--johnnyb
P.S.--Have a safe holiday weekend.
